Call for interest in Klaipėda’s major expansion

The Port of Klaipėda has opened a call for expressions of interest in its ambitious Southport Development Project, the largest expansion in the port’s history.

The plan includes reclaiming around 100 hectares of land and building 1.3 kilometers of new quay. The goal is to boost cargo capacity and attract modern terminal operators, manufacturers, and logistics companies to the Baltic region.

“The Southport Development Project is a transformative step for the Port of Klaipėda and for Lithuania’s maritime economy,” commented Algis Latakas, CEO, Port of Klaipėda Authority.

The port is targeting experienced port operators, industrial developers, and investors. The EOI sets out a public-private partnership structure and commercial framework.

The Southport area is being positioned as a high-value industrial zone with advanced facilities. Once complete, the new infrastructure is expected to further solidify Klaipėda’s status as the leading port in the Baltic States.

Preparations are moving forward. Feasibility and navigational studies, environmental assessments, and geotechnical work are already underway. A construction permit is expected by the end of 2025.
