GT USA and Great Lakes East launch monthly barge service

GT USA, the US arm of the Gulftainer Group has announced a strategic partnership with Great Lakes East to launch a new monthly barge service between Port Canaveral, Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The new service will facilitate the regular export of construction materials from the Canaveral Cargo Terminal, including lumber, steel coils, sheet piles, rebar, and other general cargo destined for Puerto Rico.

This initiative represents a major step in CCT’s long-term growth strategy, aiming to diversify its operations and expand its geographic reach.

The service officially commenced on July 14, 2025, with the maiden voyage of the barge Crimson Clover. The inaugural operation saw the efficient and secure loading of various cargo types, underscoring CCT’s operational capability and infrastructure strength.

During the launch event, Lynnard Woods, Operations Superintendent at CCT, presented a commemorative plaque to Sal Menoyo, VP of Special Projects at Great Lakes East, celebrating the beginning of this important partnership.

Luke Richards, Managing Director of Canaveral Cargo Terminal, stated that the success of this launch is a testament to the professionalism and dedication of the entire GT USA team.

Joe Starck, President of The Great Lakes Towing Company, added that this strategic move lays a strong foundation for long-term growth and enhances the ability to serve the Puerto Rico trade lane with greater reliability and efficiency.

The new barge service also leverages CCT’s advanced warehousing and logistics infrastructure, enabling secure storage and streamlined handling of diverse cargo types. It aligns closely with GT USA’s broader objectives to strengthen its regional market position, diversify revenue streams, and scale infrastructure to meet evolving cargo demands.

This collaboration highlights the growing role of Port Canaveral as a dynamic hub for general cargo and a key gateway supporting vital trade lanes between Florida and the Caribbean.
