Port of Auckland receives provisional fast-track approval for developments

The Port of Auckland announced that it has received provisional approval under the Fast Track Consent Process for the development of the Bledisloe North Wharf and Fergusson North Wharf a major milestone in delivering critical infrastructure to support Auckland’s long-term growth.

The approval marks a significant step forward in enabling the port to build once-in-a-generation infrastructure that will meet the city’s freight and cruise needs for decades to come.

Roger Gray, CEO of Port of Auckland, expressed his enthusiasm, stating that this is a major milestone, and they look forward to working closely with the expert panel over the coming weeks to finalise the consent conditions.

He emphasized the importance of the two projects saying the Bledisloe North Wharf will enhance the ability to meet the city’s freight demands, support the cruise industry, reduce congestion in the downtown ferry basin, and offer greater public access to the waterfront, while, Fergusson North Wharf is critical to making the port big ship-capable and securing Auckland’s freight capacity well into the future.

Meanwhile, the Port of Auckland has engaged in extensive consultation throughout the process, involving key stakeholders, local communities, and iwi. Their valuable input has helped shape the project plans and ensure they align with community and environmental priorities.
