Valenciaport strengthens border security

Valenciaport has launched a new initiative through which the València Port Authority will assist Spain’s Ministry of the Interior in reinforcing border control measures at the Ports of València and Sagunto.

The project is 75% co-financed by the European Union under the Next Generation funds and aims to enhance the management and security of external borders.

Currently in the administrative phase, the system is expected to be fully operational before the end of the year. It will streamline the management of migratory flows and support the prevention, detection, and investigation of terrorism and other serious crimes.

The project includes the deployment of the Entry/Exit System and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System, along with the acquisition of tablets for verification, monitoring, and registration tasks.

As part of the rollout, a pilot container will be installed at the Port of València.

This facility will feature large windows, thermal insulation, lighting, furnishings, and advanced passport-reading technology to improve traveller processing. It will be fully equipped to handle identity verification and border control procedures efficiently.

The EES records entry and exit data, as well as refusals of entry for third-country nationals crossing EU external borders. The ETIAS system assesses potential risks to public security or health and manages travel authorisations accordingly.
