Polestar Maritime orders two electric green tugs from Cochin Shipyard

Order Details
Polestar Maritime Limited has ordered two 60-ton Bollard Pull Battery-Electric Green Tugs from Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). The tugs will serve Jawaharlal Nehru Port under India’s Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP).

Design and Construction
The tugs will follow Robert Allan Limited designs, complying with the Approved Standard Tug Design and Specifications (ASTDS). CSL and its subsidiary Udupi-CSL will jointly build the vessels in Cochin.

Sustainability Features
The tugs will have battery-electric propulsion, producing zero direct emissions during harbour operations. Batteries will be sourced domestically, supporting the “Make in India” initiative.

CSL Order Book
With this order, CSL Group’s current pipeline includes 17 tugs and 6 green tugs under construction.

CSL Statement
CSL’s Chairman, Madhu S Nair, emphasized the company’s commitment to transforming India’s maritime sector with battery-electric tugs under the GTTP program.
