PSA Halifax expands global reach with launch of CMA CGM INDAMEX service

PSA Halifax has welcomed the CMA CGM Cypress on its maiden call at the PSA Halifax Atlantic Hub, marking the launch of the new INDAMEX service and expanding direct trade connectivity between the Indian Subcontinent and Canada.

The INDAMEX service links key ports in South Asia and the Middle East with Canada’s East Coast, including Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Colombo, Port Qasim, and Jeddah. The new loop is designed to offer competitive transit times and reliable schedules, providing Canadian shippers with direct access to growing markets across the Indian Subcontinent and the Gulf region.

Duncan Glass, Managing Director of PSA Halifax, highlighted the strategic significance of the service, noting that India remains one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies, with growth forecasts exceeding seven percent and bilateral trade with Canada reaching approximately US$8.6 billion. He added that through collaboration with the International Longshoremen’s Association workforce and intermodal partner CN, the terminal is positioned to deliver efficient vessel operations and strong inland rail connectivity to major markets including Montreal, Toronto, and the US Midwest.

Paul MacIsaac, Senior Vice President at the Halifax Port Authority, said the direct container service reinforces Halifax’s position as a strategic gateway in Eastern North America and creates new opportunities for Canadian businesses to diversify trade with South Asia.

The CMA CGM Cypress has a capacity of 8,586 TEUs, while vessels of up to 10,000 TEUs are expected to be deployed on the INDAMEX service. The arrival underscores Halifax’s capability as a deep-water port equipped with mega-class cranes and advanced infrastructure.

PSA Halifax said the addition of INDAMEX reflects continued collaboration with carriers and port partners, supporting sustainable growth and enhanced supply chain connectivity for Canadian trade.
