Port of Huelva expands South Quay rail terminal

The Port of Huelva is expanding its South Quay rail terminal to strengthen logistics capacity and multimodal transport integration.

The project is funded by the EU’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (NextGenerationEU). It will add a third railway track to support Rolling Highway services and improve sustainable freight transport.

Contractor Asch Infraestructuras y Servicios is building the new V3 track, which will be 1,211 meters long. The project also expands the terminal platform by 15,112 m², bringing total space to nearly 49,000 m².

The upgrade includes modern safety, signaling, drainage, and lighting systems.

The terminal already handles 750-meter trains and connects to the port’s rail network and key road links. It supports weekly services to Madrid (Abroñigal, Fuenlabrada) and Seville (Majarabique), moving containerized cargo.

The expansion strengthens the Port of Huelva’s role as a major logistics hub in southern Europe. It improves intermodal connections and creates new opportunities for the port community and regional businesses.
