CMA CGM finalizes 6-unit-strong LNG vessel order, launches R&D hub in India

French shipping and logistics major CMA CGM Group has signed the final shipbuilding contract with India’s Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) for six LNG-powered containerships.

The newbuilds, for which a letter of intent (LOI) was signed in October 2025, will have a capacity of 1,700 TEUs, will be able to run on LNG and will be ready for low-carbon fuels. The vessels will be delivered from 2029 to 2031, in line with the group’s fleet renewal and energy transition strategy.

The contract signing took place during CMG CGM’s leadership visit to New Delhi, where the French major also announced its plans to onboard 1,500 Indian seafarers by the end of 2026, in addition to the already recruited 1,000.
