Embracing the Moment for Meaningful Transformation, According to Women in Rail

According to a recent publication by Women in Rail, the organization has unveiled an enterprising business strategy for the years 2025-27. This plan is designed to foster a more balanced and representative workforce within the rail industry, aiming to create opportunities at every level. Chair Marie Daly emphasized that ongoing reforms in the rail sector present a unique chance for significant and lasting transformation.

This business strategy is centered around four key pillars:

  • attract: Encourage more women to join the rail industry by highlighting career paths and addressing entry barriers;
  • Engage: Foster awareness and connections through various national and regional initiatives that bring together stakeholders;
  • Support: Create an environment conducive to women’s success through mentoring, training programs, and inclusive policies;
  • create Visibility: Celebrate female talent and leadership, establishing role models while shifting societal perceptions.

The plan outlines specific goals such as:

  • Tackling challenges related to attracting talent into rail roles while setting clear targets for betterment;
  • Cultivating a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at members, sponsors, and other stakeholders;
  • Pursuing an annual communication strategy;
  • Diversifying corporate membership opportunities;
  • Aiming for a substantial increase of individual memberships by up to 50%.

The guidance provided will detail how both individuals and organizations can engage locally through events, mentoring initiatives, or nationally via strategic partnerships.

“With major structural changes underway in our industry, now is the perfect moment to integrate Women in Rail’s principles into a refreshed model for UK rail,” Daly remarked. “This plan is not just ambitious; it’s designed with collaboration in mind—ensuring each action leads to tangible improvements across our sector. Historically,women have been pivotal in driving transformative changes within this field; this new initiative continues that legacy.”
