Loop introduces Twist polyester resin brand made from textile waste

Called Twist, the launch marks a pivotal move by Loop to aid the industry’s transition from linear production models to circular systems that prioritise sustainability and material innovation.
Loop is engaging with apparel brands to negotiate offtake agreements for its anticipated joint venture in India, where Twist will be offered as the branded product.

Twist is produced using Loop’s proprietary depolymerisation technology, which breaks down polyester textile waste into its foundational monomers, DMT and MEG. These monomers are then purified to their original quality and re-polymerised into the Twist resin.
This process ensures the removal of dyes, colourants, and other contaminants, resulting in a resin that is chemically indistinguishable from virgin polyester.
Twist is claimed to deliver high purity, consistent colour and dyeing properties, and enhances production efficiency, ensuring seamless integration with existing spinning and manufacturing systems.
These qualities make it an attractive option for apparel companies looking to address the environmental impact of textile waste through textile-to-textile recycling, according to Loop.

By GlobalDataIn addition, the production process is estimated to save up to 418,600 tonnes (t) of CO2 emissions annually, with a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 81% compared to traditional fossil fuel-based resins.
These figures have been independently validated through a life cycle assessment (LCA) study conducted by Franklin Associates, a division of ERG, stated Loop.
The resin also has embedded chemical tracers that allow customers to track the origin of finished products back to the initial waste textile inputs.
This transparency ensures verification of the recycling and manufacturing processes, fostering trust in the circular economy and raising the bar for accountability in sustainable textile production, noted the company.
Loop Industries plans to scale up the production of Twist at its Terrebonne facility and at the upcoming Infinite Loop India facility. The latter is strategically positioned to cater to global textile and apparel brands, offering Twist at competitive prices without compromising on performance or sustainability credentials.
Loop Industries chief revenue officer Giovanni Catino said: “Twist represents a major step forward in closing the loop for textiles. It supports the textile industry’s shift toward a circular model and provides a unique product offering which meets the needs of Loop’s customers as we secure agreements for the offtake of our India JV.”
