Lloyd’s Register grants AiP to KSOE for next-generation bulk carrier

Lloyd’s Register has awarded an Approval in Principle to HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering for its advanced 210,000 DWT Newcastlemax bulk carrier design.
The cutting-edge design offers fuel flexibility, accommodating a range of options including conventional fuels, LNG, ammonia, and methanol. This adaptability allows shipowners to meet both current environmental regulations and prepare for future shifts in fuel availability and compliance standards.
Incorporating advanced smart navigation technologies and an optimised hull form, the vessel is engineered to improve fuel efficiency, enhance operational safety, and significantly reduce CO₂ emissions.
Nikos Kakalis, Global Bulk Carrier Segment Director at Lloyd’s Register, stated that the AiP marks an important milestone in advancing bulk carrier technology and reinforces our shared leadership with KSOE in promoting sustainable, forward-looking shipping solutions.
Bong-geo Kim, Head of the Global Shipyard Technical Sales Team at KSOE, added that this partnership strengthens our understanding of Newcastlemax applications and enhances the commercial prospects of future shipbuilding projects in this rapidly advancing sector.
