DACHSER expands its largest logistics centre
DACHSER has started construction of a new logistics facility at the industrial park in north Memmingen, southern Germany.

DACHSER has started construction of a new logistics facility at the industrial park in north Memmingen, southern Germany, marking a EUR 30 million investment in what is already the company’s largest operational location worldwide. The new building is expected to be ready by spring 2027.

The new facility

The facility covers 8 hectares and will offer 11,000 square metres for cargo handling, 1,000 square metres of office space and 2,750 square metres of warehousing. It will have the capacity to load or unload 125 short- and long-distance trucks simultaneously. The site already houses DACHSER’s Allgäu logistics centre and a fully automated high-bay warehouse.

Jobs and growth

The expansion will create around 90 additional jobs by mid-2027, bringing the total workforce at the Allgäu logistics centre to more than 900 people.

“With today’s ground-breaking ceremony, we’re investing in the future of our Memmingen location and thus strengthening the entire economic area. We’re creating space so that we can continue to grow and offer our customers high-quality logistics. The new facility gives us plenty of security for the future, as there’s scope for us to add a warehouse in a future construction phase. We’ll create around 90 additional jobs by mid-2027, which means we’ll have more than 900 people working at the Allgäu logistics center” said Thomas Henkel, general manager, DACHSER Allgäu logistics centre, Memmingen.

Digitalisation and sustainability

The new terminal will be equipped to the latest standards in DACHSER’s network for both digitalisation and sustainability. It will feature the company’s @ILO digital twin technology, developed in partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics. The system automatically recognises and measures packages, removing the need for manual scanning and improving process reliability. It received the German Logistics Award in 2023 and the European Logistics Association Award in 2026.

On the sustainability side, the building will include charging infrastructure for electric trucks, a photovoltaic system with an output of one megawatt peak on a green roof, and district heating supplied by the e-con Heizwerk Nord heating plant. The building meets the latest energy efficiency standards.

“With our quality and reliability, we offer our customers security for their supply chains in an increasingly volatile world. To ensure that this remains the case, we invest in our network year after year — in additional capacity, digitalisation, sustainability, and in the people who work for DACHSER. As a stable and financially strong family-owned company, we can act with foresight, especially in times of economic crisis. We’re building and expanding at many locations in Germany and Europe, including — and this I’m particularly pleased about — once again in Memmingen” said Alexander Tonn, chief operating officer road logistics, DACHSER.
