Georgia Ports Authority reports growth in container trade for 2025

The Georgia Ports Authority concluded fiscal year 2025 with a total of 5.7 million TEUs moved, an increase of 8.6%, or 450,000 TEUs, compared to the previous fiscal year.
This marks the Port of Savannah’s second-busiest year on record, underscoring the ongoing strength and resilience of Georgia’s logistics sector.
Notably, the Port of Savannah had handled 5.76 million TEUs during the pandemic-driven peak in FY2022. The current year’s strong performance highlights Georgia’s continued momentum in container trade despite shifting global trade patterns.
GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch stated that Georgia Ports continues to grow U.S. East Coast market share, and with shifting trade dynamics in Asia and India, the outlook for our future remains promising.
Over the fiscal year-to-date 2025 period, Savannah’s container volumes have grown at a 4.5% compound annual growth rate since FY2016, compared to a 2.7% CAGR for the broader US container port market, demonstrating Georgia’s outperformance in a competitive national landscape.
In June 2025 alone, the Port of Savannah handled 410,400 TEUs.
Over the course of the fiscal year, GPA averaged more than 475,000 TEUs per month, with March, April, and May each exceeding 500,000 TEUs.
The Port of Brunswick processed 870,775 units in FY2025, on par with the previous year’s record-setting performance in FY2024. Despite global market fluctuations, Brunswick continues to demonstrate stability and resilience.
To support future growth, GPA is set to begin construction this fiscal year on Berth 4 at Colonels Island.
This $100 million investment will expand capacity to meet rising demand and is expected to be operational by 2027.
