Hiab completes sale of MacGregor

Hiab has officially closed the sale of its MacGregor business to investment firm Triton.

The deal was first announced in November 2024, when Hiab, then operating as Cargotec, signed the agreement. Since then, the sale has gone through several regulatory reviews.

By 1 July 2025, most approvals were in place, including the green light from the European Union. However, clearance from China’s SAMR was still pending.

On 10 July, Hiab confirmed that all approvals had been secured. The transaction was set to close by 31 July.

That timeline held. On 31 July 2025, Triton transferred the full purchase price and took control of MacGregor’s operations.

MacGregor had already been reported under discontinued operations since late 2024. With the sale now complete, Hiab has officially handed over one of the most recognized names in marine cargo handling.
