HII Leverages AI Innovations to Transform Naval Shipbuilding in the U.S
According to a recent announcement, HII, the largest military shipbuilder in the United States, has teamed up with C3 AI, a leader in enterprise artificial intelligence software. This expanded partnership aims to boost shipbuilding efficiency by integrating AI technologies at HII’s Newport News and Ingalls divisions. Their collaboration follows a triumphant six-month pilot program at Ingalls Shipbuilding that showcased notable improvements in scheduling performance through advanced algorithms.
HII’s CEO Chris Kastner emphasized the importance of enhancing shipbuilding throughput for both HII and the U.S. Navy. “We’re excited to collaborate with C3 AI to harness data and digital tools like artificial intelligence as we work diligently to deliver ships for our Navy,” he stated.

Initially, efforts will concentrate on refining planning and scheduling processes within HII’s two main divisions: Ingalls Shipbuilding specializes in amphibious vessels and destroyers while Newport News focuses on constructing nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines.
C3 AI’s chairman Thomas M. Siebel remarked on how deploying Enterprise AI can create an smart infrastructure that enhances America’s naval readiness capabilities.
